Coltin Cunningham
Black Belt Instructor

Mr. Coltin Cunningham was born in August of 1986 and began his Martial Arts training at the young age of 7 years old. He was unable to attend the juniors program classes and, therefore, developed his skills quickly in the more demanding adult programs. Coltin twice won the Junior Nationals Karate Championship and has won every tournament competition he has entered. Earning the nickname, "Joltin" Coltin Cunningham, he has also developed excellent boxing, kickboxing and self-defense skills and enjoys the Martial Arts as a way of creatively expressing himself.

Known as "Mr. C3" by our students, Coltin Corydon Cunningham is an important and integral part of the continual "testing" process in the very physical "mat laboratory" that fosters the aliveness and constant evolution of the American Freedom Form Kenbo-Jitsu Karate System and its dynamic, effective and contemporary curriculum. Besides his excellent technical Martial Arts capabilities and teaching skills, he contributes a great deal of support in many different ways to all of the Cunningham's Ugottawanna Martial Arts Programs (including graphic design, web page development, video production, etc.)

Coltin is very athletically inclined and has excelled at baseball, basketball, and track and field. He was awarded a baseball / academic scholarship at McKendree College in Lebanon, Illinois which has been ranked a top 20 baseball school as well as being one of the top 50 academic institutions in the nation. Coltin is pursuing a career as a Doctor of Optometry.

Ms. Barb Shanle
Assistant Instructor

Barb Shanle brings a wealth of experience in numerous styles of martial arts to her Position as Assistant Instructor at Cunningham's Ugottawanna Martial Arts. Her varied experience in the martial arts (including experience as a successful tournament competitor), the skills she acquired in being a very good mother to two talented and now grown children, her inclination to be a "people person", and a keen sense of humor… all contribute to her capabilities as an instructor and add greatly to her contributions as a valued member of the Professional Staff at Cunningham's Ugottawanna Martial Arts.

Barb's experience in other martial arts styles and schools also has helped her to appreciate the "difference" in the "ways and means" of martial arts instruction at Cunningham's Ugottawanna Martial Arts and within the American Freedom Form Kenbo Jitsu Karate System. The direct "female perspective" she brings to the RIPSTRAKE Personal Protection/ Self-Defense Programs is also a great asset to Mr. Cunningham as we tailor our many programs specifically to the individual needs of our clients of Cunningham's Ugottawanna Martial Arts programs.

Barb has demonstrated a strong desire and a quick ability to learn, absorb and teach the techniques, tools, concepts and requirements of the American Freedom Form Kenbo Jitsu Karate System. She was promoted to the Rank of Advanced Brown in March of 2005, and is a real and valuable asset to the Cunningham's Ugottawanna Martial Arts Schools.
